Ductless systems are simply centralized air systems, but without duct work. They include an outdoor condenser unit, indoor head (s), refrigerant lines and line sets.
The outdoor unit is a heat pump, which operates as both an air conditioning system and heating system. Indoor heads act as the air handler of the system; they provided the indoor air to each zone. No ductwork is necessary, which improves the energy efficiency of the system. The more ductwork there is apart of a system the more chance of duct leakage.
Many configurations of these heat pump mini split systems exist. You can install a single zone with only one outdoor unit and indoor head. Also available are Mitsubishi mini split multi zone options with an indoor head or ceiling cassette for each zone.
Multi zoned systems are designed to provide precise temperature and comfort in each room with an indoor head. Each zone's temperature is adjustable with a remote.
The indoor heads can be either wall or floor mounted. It depends on the layout of your home and your desired comfort.
