The Home Care Plan: Clean, Seal, and Protect

Have you noticed an unexplained spike in your fuel and electric bills? Or perhaps your family members are suffering from allergies and other respiratory symptoms? Are there “hot spots” throughout your home? Then perhaps it’s time to consider calling Miller’s Heating & Air to take advantage of the Home Care Plan.

Maintaining a healthy and energy-efficient home in the Pacific Northwest comes with its own set of challenges, especially when it comes to indoor air quality. Over time, your HVAC system’s ductwork can collect dust, debris, and allergens that not only lower air quality but also impact your system’s performance.

For homeowners in Vancouver, WA, duct cleaning offers a solution to these issues, improving both comfort and health. In this guide, we’ll explore the benefits of duct cleaning and how Miller’s Heating & Air can help you maintain a cleaner, more efficient home.

How Duct Cleaning in Vancouver, WA Can Improve Your Home’s Comfort and Health

The Home Care Plan is a three-pronged strategy to protect your family’s health, improve indoor air quality, and ensure a long life for your HVAC system. This strategy includes cleaning the ductwork, sealing the ducts, and installing an air purifier.

Why Duct Cleaning Matters in Vancouver, WA

In the Pacific Northwest, the combination of damp winters and humid summers can contribute to the buildup of contaminants like mold, mildew, and dust in your home’s ductwork.

According to the EPA, indoor air can be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air, and ducts that aren’t regularly cleaned can become breeding grounds for these pollutants. Duct cleaning is essential for removing these harmful particles, improving your home’s air quality, and ensuring your HVAC system operates efficiently.

The Miller’s Heating & Air 3-Step Home Care Plan

These three simple steps of Clean, Seal, and Protect will quickly and dramatically improve your family’s comfort and health. But this Home Care Plan is offered only from Miller’s Heating & Air, where your family’s health and safety is our top concern.

  1. Clean

Over time, dust, dirt, and debris will build up in your ductwork. This is a natural part of everyday use. However, that dirt and debris can act as an incubator for mold, mildew, bacteria, and other contaminants. Not only that, but the dust and dirt inside your ductwork, and which often includes pollen and other allergens, will circulate throughout the home with every heating or cooling cycle. This will drastically decrease your indoor air quality (IAC), and contribute to allergies, asthma, and respiratory illnesses.

The ductwork in your home should be cleaned every 7 years, or more often if household members struggle with respiratory conditions. A professional HVAC company can complete the job in just a few hours, with little inconvenience to homeowners. Cleaning the ducts is the first step to a healthier home. Routine cleaning also extends the lifespan of the ducts by preventing rust, and improves the longevity of the furnace and air conditioner.

2. Seal

Aeroseal is an aerosolized sealant that can be sprayed into clean ducts to fill in gaps, cover cracks, and seal joints. Duct sealing is important to prevent the loss of treated air, and to keep harmful pollutants out of the home. Aeroseal is acclaimed as the new industry standard of excellence in duct sealing.

The benefits of sealing your ducts with Aeroseal include: reduced dust and allergens, eliminated hot spots and cold spots, increased longevity of HVAC equipment, and improved energy efficiency, with up to 30% savings.

The Aeroseal Process

  1. Prepare the system. All registers are blocked off with foam. A small hole is cut into the supply or return. The air conditioner, fan, and furnace are temporarily blocked to prevent damage. An Aeroseal machine is connected to the hole near the supply using lay-flat tubing.

  2. Pretest the system. The tubing is inflated and the Air Duct Diagnostic pretest will detect the exact amount of leakage. The typical duct leakage detected in a home is between 30-40%.

  3. Seal the ductwork. Nontoxic, UL tested and approved aerosol sealant is injected into the duct system. As the sealant exits through leaks, it begins to collect and seal. Aeroseal can seal openings up to 5/8ths of an inch.

  4. Review results. The entire Aeroseal process is computer monitored, and once the process is complete, you will receive a summary of your results.

Miller’s Heating & Air is an authorized dealer of Aeroseal duct sealant. Our technicians are fully trained and experienced in its application, with guaranteed results.

3. Protect

The last step to a cleaner, more comfortable home is to install an air purifier. Miller’s Heating & Air is proud to offer “The Protector” air purifier, which is effective at:

  • Killing 97% of viruses on surfaces

  • Killing 99% of Swine Flu

  • Reducing airborne bacteria by 97%

  • Reducing airborne mold spores by 97%

  • 99% reduction of E Coli, Listeria, Strep, Tuberculosis, and Bird Flu

Whether you realize it or not, there is moisture in the air of your home known as humidity. When the H2O molecules in the air travel through your ductwork they pass by The Protector and come in contact with its Germicidal UV Light. This light combined with a titanium catalyst causes two things to occur:

  1. Ionization: This process charges the dust, dander, and contaminants in the air like magnets, both positively and negatively, which causes them to clump together. As a result, the contaminants become larger and easier to trap in the filter. Increased filtration helps protect your furnace, adds years of life to your HVAC system, and saves you money and inconvenience.

  2. Photocatalysis: This process turns the H2O molecules into hydrogen peroxide and other cleaning agents that are proven to disinfect and sterilize germs, bacteria, and viruses in your home. This device has been proven to even sterilize bacteria on surfaces like door handles and toilets. As a result, you can experience greater health, breathe easier, and live cleaner.

  3. Bonus Effect: The Protector has a Germicidal UV Light that produces trace amounts of ozone. As a result, deodorization occurs. This process rids the air of unwanted smells like cooking odors, pet odors, and mold.

The Health Benefits of Clean Ducts

Dirty ducts don’t just lower your home’s air quality—they can have serious health implications for your family. Dust, allergens, and mold spores circulating through your HVAC system can exacerbate asthma, allergies, and other respiratory issues. The American Lung Association notes that poor indoor air quality can increase the risk of developing respiratory infections, especially for those with compromised immune systems or pre-existing conditions.

By scheduling regular duct cleaning, you can remove these harmful contaminants and provide cleaner, fresher air for your household. This is especially important during flu season and in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, where clean air plays a key role in reducing the spread of viruses and other airborne illnesses.

Energy Efficiency: Save Money with Clean Ductwork

Beyond health concerns, dirty ducts can significantly reduce the efficiency of your HVAC system. When dust and debris build up in your ducts, your system has to work harder to push air through, leading to increased energy consumption. In fact, the U.S. Department of Energy estimates that homeowners can save up to 30% on their energy bills by ensuring their HVAC systems are running efficiently, and clean ducts play a major role in that.

A professional duct cleaning service removes obstructions and debris, improving airflow and reducing strain on your system. This means your HVAC system can operate more efficiently, saving you money on energy bills while extending the lifespan of your equipment.

Preventing Mold and Allergens in the Pacific Northwest

The damp climate of the Pacific Northwest creates the perfect environment for mold and mildew to thrive inside your ductwork. Over time, these contaminants can spread throughout your home, contributing to allergy symptoms and respiratory problems. Regular duct cleaning can help prevent mold growth, ensuring your indoor air stays free of harmful pollutants.

Additionally, cleaning your ducts can reduce the presence of other allergens, like pollen and pet dander, that often accumulate in ductwork. By removing these allergens, you’ll improve the overall air quality in your home and create a healthier living environment for your family.

COVID-19 and Flu Prevention: Cleaner Air for a Safer Home

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, indoor air quality has become more important than ever. Proper ventilation and clean air can help reduce the spread of viruses, including COVID-19 and the flu. The EPA recommends improving indoor air quality through proper HVAC maintenance, including regular duct cleaning.

By removing dust, allergens, and other airborne particles, duct cleaning can help create a cleaner and safer indoor environment, particularly during flu season. For homeowners in Vancouver, WA, this is an essential step in protecting your family’s health during the colder months when viruses are more easily spread.

A Healthier, More Efficient Home with Duct Cleaning

Duct cleaning is a crucial step in maintaining a healthy, energy-efficient home, especially in the Pacific Northwest where moisture and allergens can wreak havoc on your indoor air quality. By cleaning your ducts, sealing them with Aeroseal, and installing a quality air purifier, you can significantly improve your home’s comfort, reduce energy costs, and protect your family’s health.
